Ashish Malhotra, managing director of Airtel Kenya

Airtel Kenya has announced a major expansion of its 5G network in Kenya.

The telco stated yesterday that it has quadrupled its 5G footprint; making the network available in 39 counties and 285 wards across the country, up from 16 counties and 180 wards in July 2023.

At the same time, Airtel announced that it has increased the number of its 5G sites to 690, up from 372 when the network went online.

Airtel intends to introduce an additional site by the end of the year, increasing the total number of 5G sites to 1690.

The rollout will focus on improving and strengthening Airtel's network coverage in the country's northeast.

This latest announcement by Airtel Kenya comes as the number of 5G subscribers in the country continues to grow.

According to the latest Communication Authority statistics, the number of 5G network users in the country is increasing.

Ashish Malhotra, managing director of Airtel Kenya, commented on the expansion, saying: "We are confident that our ongoing network expansion will enable us to extend connectivity to more communities nationwide, ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital revolution."
