A Nigerian firm, Newwaves Ecosystems Limited has launched an online platform for meetings and conferences called Konn3ct. Coming with powerful features that enable seamless connection of over 200 people at a go, the platform is set to rival the likes of Zoom and Microsoft Team in the global market.
Speaking at the virtual launch which was held on the Konn3ct platform, the Managing Director of Newwaves Ecosystems Limited, Mr. Femi Williams, said the application was developed to bridge the gap created by the existing applications in the market. “We have designed Konn3ct with all the features in other platforms and added features that make us stand out. One of the features that set us apart from the others is the user dashboard that allows you to do whatever you want to do on our platform,” he said.
Williams added that the Konn3ct platform, apart from being affordable, also offers free basic plan of 60 minutes, compared to 40 minutes being offered by other platforms. He said users of Konnect would also have access to a unique room, which they can personalise with their logo.
Taking cognisance of the low bandwidth situation in Nigeria and other countries, he said the application was designed to consume low data. According to him, during presentation, a presenter intending to stream video would only need to paste the link on the dashboard while the system plays it to the audience, thereby saving the presenter’s data.
While noting that the highest level of security was put in place to protect users, he said the platform, which is the first of its kind in West Africa, supports multiple devices and can be configured into multiple languages.
In his keynote at the launch, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, (NITDA), Mr. Kashifu Inuwa, expressed the confidence that Konnect would soon dominate the global market as it has great features to become acceptable globally. “It has the most advanced security architecture and the low data consumption and other conferencing options have made the solution stand out. At NITDA, we pride ourselves in leadership by innovation, hence, we are very excited about this innovation coming from Newwaves Systems Limited,” he said.
Kashifu, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Managing Director, IT Infrastructure at NITDA, Dr. Abdullahi Usman, the agency was also excited because the application would add to the great contributions of ICT to the Nigerian economy. “Exiting recession would not have been possible with the physical efforts of government alone, but activities in the ICT sector. Konn3ct will add to the economy, create jobs, and reduce capital flight while also enhancing data security.
“I, therefore encourage all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the government, as well as religious bodies, NGOs to embrace the solution in line with the Nigerian guidelines for local content in ICT,” he said.
