Global Skills Hub in the United Kingdom has honoured Prof. Ganiyu Aderounmu, former President, of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), with the Award of Africa Outstanding Scholar of the Year on Technology.
The award, which took place recently at the University of Nottingham, UK, was the second Africa Education Summit.
The summit had its theme as “Entrepreneurship and Skills Development in the 21st Century Education System: The Africa-European Perspectives.”
The summit fostered dialogue, collaboration, and innovative approaches to education across continents, while exploring strategies for equipping students with skills and building entrepreneurial mindset.
The event provided a platform for African and European educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to exchange ideas, share best practices, and build partnerships.
Speaking on the award, Aderounmu said it underscored the collective efforts towards advancing education and technology on a global scale.
“This award is a win not just for me, but for the entire African continent, it shines a spotlight on the incredible advancements being made in African education and technology.
“However, it also implies there’s more work to be done in shaping the future of education and skills development in Africa, because there’s a lot of potential to be unlocked,” he said.
Aderounmu is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun.
