Zambia has successfully attracted investments exceeding $50 million over the past two years, following the waiver on imports of information and communication telecoms technology (ICT) equipment. This significant development was announced by the Minister of Science and Technology, Felix Mutati, on Monday, during a visit by representatives from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
The visit aimed to assess Zambia's preparedness to host the Cloud Africa Ecosystem, a major initiative expected to serve as a data hub for African residents and industries. Although the specific date for the event has not been disclosed, the Cloud Africa Ecosystem is anticipated to play a pivotal role in the continent's transition to a digital economic community.
In his address, Minister Mutati emphasized Zambia's commitment to advancing its digital economy and infrastructure. "I talked about the $54 million which has come to the country in terms of investment following the waiver on ICT equipment," Mutati stated.
The Cloud Africa Ecosystem will enhance Zambia's position as a digital hub, providing essential data services across Africa.
