Zimbabwe is launching a Digital Ambassadors program to boost tech understanding in the country, with volunteers spearheading and advocating for digital literacy in communities they serve.
Tatenda Mavetera, Zimbabwe's minister of information communication technology, postal and courier services (ICTPCS), made the announcement during a recent International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) certification for school teachers.
She praised the Computer Society of Zimbabwe for hosting the annual ICDL forum, which she said showed that the government supported and promoted more public-private partnerships.
The minister stated, "Our objective is to have at least two instructors each school certified with ICDL, and the initial phase of this program targets 1800 schools nationwide.
“Furthermore, the ministry of ICTPCS is to launch a Digital Ambassadors programme whereby each community has digital champions who spearhead and advocate for the digital literacy of community members.”
Damien O'Sullivan, CEO of the ICDL Foundation, Solange Umulisa, general manager ICDL Africa, Joice Benza, president of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, and Viola Dondo, executive director of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, were also in attendance.
